| Was it ever actually used competitively? Because I don't believe I've ever seen it utilised in one.

| So when it would blind you, it's vision was significantly reduced. It did see some use in very high level Korean games TvP in late game. If P was using carriers/observers, a lot of T users would go wraith/a few medics. They would then scan the carrier army, and blind the observers, then fly in with wraiths and try to pick off the remaining observers that weren't blinded, then beat down the carrier fleet pretty badly. If I'm not mistaken, Boxer was the first one to do it in a big match, and everyone lost their fucking minds.
