I'm looking for something for $350 or lower. I was looking at the 770 or R9 280x/ 290. thoughts?

I went with this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=14-130-918

After doing some more digging, it seemed like what is said to a be a 30% increase in performance over all other non Titan cards was worth the extra money.

Did I make a mistake?

Should be alright, Just be sure you have the RAM and CPU to match or else your PC will still get bottle necked, Your games will say that you can run on the best Graphics available but your CPU and RAM will not be able to keep up causing extreme lag and slow downs.

I have that covered, I believe. I've had everything for about 2 years, but I have:
i7 3770k (with a ZALMAN CNPS9900 NT 120mm 2 Ball Low-noise CPU Cooler)
16gb ddr3 ram
asus sabertooth z77 motherboard
750 watt power supply

the link has a 780 instead of a 770. that set up will run fine with a 770, i have the same thing with a different motherboard.

a 780 may push the power supply to the limit. you may need a 850 watt power supply for a 780. cheapening out on the power supply can cause your PC to randomly crash on graphically intense games or cause your power supply to die sooner.

I just ordered a 770 for under $300. It hasn't shipped yet but I expect great things from it.
