So for the longest time I was not enjoying this game simply due to playing vs Mech. I just had no answers. If my roach timing failed...gg. The subsequent Roach/hydra push doesn't work against equally skilled opponents. And mutas just die to 5+thors. So I was at a loss. Until someone shed a light on me. If terran EVER doesn't build enough anti air.... games over. So a strat i started to use was build up like I'm doing a roach timing or mass ling style. Basically force more tanks/hellbats. Then proxy a spire somewhere or build a spire but just don't produce mutas until you get the terran to commit to a lot of none aa units. Then tech swap on him to mutas. It was pretty hilarious the first game i tried it on. If the Terran builds a lot of thors just by default. Harass his base with mutas to make him waste minerals. If/when he moves his army over to defend....(here is a trick with mutas)..... to properly attack small groups of thors. Move your mutas to a very distant point across the map, the trick is to make sure you fly over the thors. Once your mutas are over the thors, attack. The benefit is that your mutas will not be clumped. All you need is attack upgrades at first. You will wreck.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

I think a good way to do this is to go Roach/muta. early on when he is on 2/3 bases he is forced to go either tanks or thors (along with bats and mines) If you can make it so you have roaches when he has thors and mutas when he has tanks you can simply DESTORY him.

I did that in the 1st game of the Clan war for an expample

This is just the thinking behind the strat above. you dont only need mutas. roachs are fast and can counter a hell of alot of times.

vs a GOOD terran he would know to stop thor production at 3 and start tanks for this reason

Currently, I believe holding me back is recognizing when i should adjust my production based on what he is producing.

I never have a game longer than 18 mins vs mech, cause I win :D, but i think you wanna do the same thing over and over again, but maybe get vipers, and i think if it comes to the point where you have double spire just get like 40 mutas and kill him. 8 thors cant deal with those many mutas if you just magic box. If you need help on the let me know.

No lie, mutas are overpowered STRAIGHT UP if you have more than 30 of them. The only counter that they only have at this time could be marines for terran, phenoix for toss, and... The same ammount of mutas for zerg? usually dont have that much of a muta lead vs that. That is why they make SUCH a great transition late game. Store 3k gas and 3k mins, trade your roach/hydra army, then max out with 30-40 mutas, cause they cant make marine/pheonix/mutas fast enough to counter. WIN.

You could use Mutas vs mech but more for harrassment because if u take out their gases that pretty much limits their macro because thors and such require a lot of gas so take out the gases and try and deny their expansions with roaches

I treat mech as if it was protss, the answer: swarm hosts. Once you have a large number to keep the mech at bay, you then grab a spire and do one of two things.
1- Mutas: They are great for harassment and if there are few thors you may be able to fight straight up
2- Brood Lords: Tech to them and just send 5-6 along with corrupters to attack, normally after mech a terran transitions to air so you'd be ahead in that way.

Muta/Swarm Hosts. Start with Muta to force Thors then switch to Swarm Hosts while also expanding. Mech is really immobile so they won't really be able to stop you from expanding if you're keeping him on his toes.

What i do: Put tons of tumors and try to cover the map as much as possible. Also send in scouts to check mass raven switch. Try not to get them to 4 bases and constantly pick off workers (with mutas) while taking more bases than the mech player. As long as they dont have a crazy amount of vikings and ravens its a good idea to go for broodlord and vipers... At least that's how i usually play :P

Against Mech its usually difficult to decide because mech has quite a diverse unit composition. For me I think you can go swarmhost, hydra and viper or maybe swarmhost, corruptor, viper. I used this against a player who went tank, thor, hellbat and if you are able to use good abducts or blinding clouds, mech play is a breeze. For a transition, go for roaches because once the game goes on, resources are hard to come by and he will most likely go for something like hellbats but thats only if you can pressure him and prevent him from taking bases to go for mass ravens.
